Cover

The final cover feels luxurious and made for a company like Ulta to sell. The choice of fonts, colors and design nods to Valentine’s Day, without feeling too campy and childish.

Final Mockup

After creating the palette shapes, I placed all my palette and cover together, along with a fake mirror. This shows my design for the smaller palette and helps show how cohesive each part is.

Palette Color Story

The color story, named after words that are associated with Valentine’s Day, focuses on reds, pinks and oranges. The similarity of the gold to the pink in the font is purposeful, as I did not want to draw away from the colors.

  • This was the original sketch. The swatches stayed similar to the final product, but I felt like the palette I was trying to make felt very juvenile.

  • This was a test of colors against potential color palettes. Originally, I wanted to have a gold wordmark, but I felt the pink popped very well against the red.

  • I knew I wanted cursive lettering because Valentine’s Day is a very personal and loving day where people send each other hand written letters. The starred wordmark is the one I ended up using.

  • This was the first attempt at making the palette. Not only were the colors too washed out, but it didn’t feel luxurious. It also looked too much like children’s makeup, so I decided to rework my ideas.
